10 ways to Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee

It’s the Jubilee weekend! Time to party like it’s 1953. The queen celebrates 70 years on the throne. She is the longest-reigning monarch in the UK. Celebrations will be happening in London and around the commonwealth. For many of us, Queen Elizabeth II is the only monarch we have known and it is right to thank her for her service as well as celebrate all things British. Here are a few ideas of things to do to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by decorating your house

Fish out your flags and fly them outside of your house. Show that you are proud to be British. Many towns across the nation are flying the Union Jack and some streets are having a big street party. If you don’t have any flags then print some flags and put them in your window. Perhaps you and your child can draw a portrait of the queen to put in your window. See how patriotic you are to your neighbours.

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by hosting a tea party

What could be more British than having a tea party? Get your best china out and serve your friends and neighbours with tea and scones (cream goes on first, and then the jam). You don’t need to put your pinky finger out, none of the royals does that. If you are stuck on what to talk about during your tea party be sure to mention the weather and the state of the roads. If nobody wants to come to your tea party then have it with your toys (they are better conversationalists anyway).

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by planting a tree

One of the many duties the queen and other royals have had over the years is planting trees. They are all keen environmentalists. Trees are vital for our survival and we need to plant more of them. As part of the Queen’s Jubilee ancient forest lands around the commonwealth are being protected forever as a legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. Here in the UK Epping Forest has been allocated as the ancient woodland to be protected under the queen’s canopy initiative. If you cannot plant a tree yourself, why not consider signing up for Treekly. This is a wonderful initiative to encourage people to walk regularly. If you can manage to walk 5000 steps a day for 5 days then a mangrove tree will be planted in Madagascar.

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by attending a local event

Throughout the weekend towns and villages will be hosting local events to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. There will be street parties, fairs and fun sporting events (does anyone fancy a sack race?) After the last two years of lockdowns, this is a great opportunity for you to go out and celebrate in your community. You can meet new people, find out what clubs and societies are available in your area and maybe even meet other ‘only child families’.

To find out what events are happening near you go to the official Queen’s Jubilee website.

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by watching events on TV

There is a whole host of events happening in London and Windsor that the queen will attend. This includes the trouping of the colour on Thursday 2nd June, the Epsom horse race near Windsor, a thanksgiving service and 1500 beacons will be lit around the world. When you are not having a tea party or playing croquet on your lawn spend a little time observing the celebrations in London that the queen will be attending. I am sure you will swell up with pride.

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by reading a book about her

Many biographies have been written about Her Majesty. She has led a fascinating life as any monarch would. She is known for having a great sense of humour and her stoic approach to life is a good example for us all. There are some great biographies about the queen for adults and for children.

Here are some books to consider.

Celebrating to Queen’s Jubilee by going on your Magic Flying Carpet

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by watching a Film about her

There have been quite a few films and TV shows that feature Queen Elizabeth II. We recommend the following:

Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by making your own crown jewels

Get out your card and glue and make your own crown jewels. Stick fake gems on it the crown and don’t forget to make a sceptre and ball. To find out about the real crown jewels read the Historic Palaces post on the Crown Jewels.

Once you have made your own crown jewels you can have a mock crowning ceremony in your own home.
