Best Christmas Gifts for Toddlers to help them learn

Orchard Toys Puzzles and Games

Orchard Toys are beautifully made puzzles and games for babies and toddlers. They produce simple colourful puzzles for your toddler to put together.

The games are great too. They are really simple with just a few rules that your child can easily follow. Sops had a few Orchard games that we would play together as a family.

This set would make an awesome Christmas gift as it contains festive puzzles and games for your child to enjoy over the Christmas period.

Wooden Shape Sorter Activity Cube for Toddlers

This is a classic hand-to-eye coordination toy that any toddler will enjoy.

The shapes are a little more advanced than the ones we see babies use, but it is the next step up to challenge your toddler.

This is a wonderful wooden toy that is robust and will certainly help develop your child’s senses.

Peppa Pig: Marvellous Magnet Book

Who doesn’t love Peppa Pig? She is a global star. It was one of the few children’s programme I actually enjoyed watching with Sops when she was a toddler.

This is a great book to help develop your child’s imagination. They can use the magnet characters to add to the story. You can even help them develop their comprehension as you read to your child and they identify which is the correct characters to add to the picture.

Aquadoodle Classic Large Water Doodle Mat

Toddlers love to draw and scribble and paint. Boy, do they love to paint, and then spread that paint all over your house like mud.

This is a fantastic toy to give to your child so they can be as messy as they like without making any mess.

Sops had an aqua doodle mat and believe me, it was a real blessing.

Baratt Cash Register Toy Playset

Sops had exactly the same toy cash register when she was little and it was a big hit.

She could pretend to scan the food with her handheld scanner. She could move the food down the little conveyor belt and put them back into the little basket. There is even a little key to open the cash drawer and a few “notes & coins”. There is even a little “credit card” for her customers to use. When Sops was little she tried to use this card in an actual shop.

Thankfully, the shop assistant thought she was adorable and they didn’t call the police on her for trying to pay with a fraudulent credit card.

Best Christmas gifts for toddlers to have heaps of fun

Playskool Explore ā€™Nā€™ Grow Busy Ball Popper Musical Toy

This was Sops’ favourite toy of all time when she was a toddler. She loved putting the balls on the little slide and watching them go through pipes to then explode out the hole at the top. She would squeal in delight and do it over and over again. Sops had so much fun playing with this toy.

I highly recommend this toy to any toddler based on my own daughter’s experience with it. I only wish I took a video recording of her playing with it at the time.

VATOS Whack Game Toy with Mole

This game is a firm favorite at the fairground. I have seen many families happily bashing moles, gofers, and other underground mammals with a hammer.

Not sure about the ethical message we are sending out to children here, but the game does help improve hand-to-eye coordination, as well as timing and observational skills.

VTech POP and Drop Digger

When your child has figured out how to walk they like to use some sort of toy to push around. I wonder if this is used as a walking aid or a device to prove your child’s dominance over gravity?

Whatever the reason, you child with love this drop digger that also blows out balls. It includes buttons to press and makes all sorts of interactive noises that will thrill your child for hours. Because what child doesn’t like pressing random buttons?

Thomas & Friends Fisher-Price 2-in-1 Transforming Thomas Playset

Sops had a train set when she was a toddler. She was obsessed with trains. She used to drag me out of the house every time she could hear the steam train from behind the house. (Yes we had stream trains on the line behind our house).

Thomas the Tank Engine is a very popular franchise and whilst their obsession with trains may be short-lived, your child will really love playing with this set for many hours.

NB. If your toddler likes copying you in everything you do including household, why not give them some toys to mimick housework, so they can ‘clean’ with you. For more ideas check out our post How to encourage your child to do household chores.

Best Christmas gifts for toddlers to calm them

DIY Felt Christmas Tree Decoration

Fuzzy Felt was a very simple popular toy when I was a child. Children around the world enjoyed making pictures on a board by adding felt cutouts. It kept us entertained for ages in the car before smartphones and potable DVD players were invented.

This is the same sort of concept but on a bigger scale. Stick it to your wall and it becomes a Christmas decoration that your child can change any time they wish. Fancy a pile of poo on the top of your Christmas Tree? You can have one on this decoration.

Kids Magic Glow Pad Drawing Board with Real Light

This gift is awesome. Your child can doodle away sitting in their bed and they can see their beautiful work of art in the dark. How cool is that?

This is a great gift to use in the evening to help your child settle down for the night. Perhaps they can draw some pictures of things they have done in the day and what they are looking forward to doing the next day.

There is nothing more relaxing for a child than watching some soft images moving gently over their bedroom ceiling at night.

This beautiful Star Projector Night light beams images of the night sky or images from under the sea. Your child will adore gazing at the images circling around their room as they drift off to sleep.
