Helping Your Parents Celebrate Valentine’s Day
There are different types of love. The ancient Greeks gave a name to each type. Here are some of the types:
St Valentine’s Day celebrates Eros. Children are too young to love with Eros, but they can help their parents celebrate this kind of love.
Abraham Lincoln said, “The best thing a man can do for his children is to love their mother.” So here are some activities you can try to help kindle the romance between your parents.

Do your parent’s really know each other? Perhaps they have been together for many years and they still don’t know what each other’s favourite colour is. This is a fun game to play with your parents. You get to be the host of the quiz. All you need is two small white boards and a couple of white board pens.
You get to ask them both questions and see if they answer them accurately. Sops and I have compiled a list of 10 questions you can use. But you can always create your own questions.

Create a Romantic Setting for Valentine’s Day
Restaurants are over booked for St Valentine’s Day. They can be over crowded and sometimes couples get engaged in a very public nature on Valentine’s Day. Your parents may love this and want to go out on Valentine’s day, but then again, they may hate the idea of going to a busy restaurant and they would rather snuggle up at home with their family. If so, you could create a romantic setting in your own home.
Ways to create a romantic setting for your parents:
- Create a romantic playlist of songs – you could use Spotify or You Tube to do this.
- Clean the house yourself if you can. Or at least tidy up your toys without being asked.
- Set the dinner table with a fancy tablecloth and candles etc. Arrange to cook dinner for your parents if you can. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
- Look at family photos together with your parents, especially when they were first dating.
- Ask your parents how they met and when they fell in love.
- Put on a romantic film that the whole family can enjoy.
- Take yourself to bed, to give your parents plenty of time to smooch in private.
Preparing for Other Occassions
Valentine’s Day is for romantic couples to express their love. But I am sure you love your parents loads and want to show them your love. You can always make them a valentines card to show your agape love towards them, or you may want to wait and celebrate their special days separately such as Mothering Sunday and Father’s Day. Perhaps whilst they are busy smooching on the sofa you can be in your room preparing for Mother’s and Father’s Day.
